Pusher
For a moment, it looked as if Nicolas Winding Refn would study at the Danish Film Academy, but that didn't happen because he preferred to spend his time making a film. In 1996, when he was only 25 years old, that film was released: Pusher, a grim, raw and very realistic crime story set in the underworld of Copenhagen. The film was a huge hit and a great international success. Not only did Refn make a name for himself, but one of the leading actors also made his breakthrough: Mads Mikkelsen, now one of the most celebrated actors.
Insignificant drug dealer Frank buys a batch of heroin from the ruthless drug lord Milo, promising to pay later. But the police are on his trail and during his escape he falls into the water, losing all the heroin. Milo is not amused and wants to see money, money that Frank does not have. Desperate, he searches for a way out.
