The Love That Remains
Just because you are divorced does not mean you have disappeared from each other's lives. This is what Icelandic artist Anna and sea fisherman Magnús discover after divorcing not so long ago. Magnús in particular finds it difficult to adjust to the new situation and, as soon as he is back on land, he seizes every opportunity to visit Anna and their three children who live with her. Of course, this gets on her nerves, but out of pity and for the sake of the children, she lets him back into her life time and time again. Naturally, something of their former love remains, but divorce inevitably brings problems.
Director Hlynur Pálmason, best known for Godland, paints a portrait of a broken marriage in this family drama, which he wrote himself. Images of berries and mushrooms cut through the drama of the broken family, emotionally charged scenes are interspersed with comical scenes, and all of this is framed by serene piano music.
