Kabul, Between Prayers
23-year-old Samin from Kabul is a staunch supporter of Taliban ideology. He dreams of becoming a martyr and is willing to give his life to purify the world of “infidels”. Meanwhile, he finds it difficult to strike a balance between this radical ideal and everyday life, because Samin also works as a farmer on his father's estate and has a wife. His younger brother, the adolescent 14-year-old Rafi, looks up to him enormously and would like to follow in his footsteps.
Together with his brother, Afghan director Aboozar Amini came to the Netherlands as a 14-year-old refugee in 1999. In 2018, he returned to his native country to make his first documentary: Kabul, City in the Wind. He returned again for this film and made Kabul, Between Prayers, a film about a country that has been marked by military, political and religious violence for decades.
