Where the Wind Comes From
She is a dreamer, 19-year-old Tunisian Alyssa, but none of those dreams seem to be coming true, especially after her father's death. She spends her days listless and uninspired. Her slightly older neighbour Mehdi, who has been a good friend of hers for a long time, is not doing much better. Although he has an IT degree, he is unable to find a job, which his family finds incomprehensible. He is also very good at drawing, which may offer a way out. Alyssa enters him in an art competition in Djerba, an island in southern Tunisia, because the winner gets to live in Germany. With a borrowed car, the two set off on a journey to Djerba, a journey in which they discover a lot about themselves.
A gentle road movie about Tunisian youth, hope and friendship, this is how director Amel Guellaty's award-winning feature film debut, written by herself, could be described. Starring Eya Bellagha and Slim Baccar in the leading roles.
