What makes a human being a human being? Is it conceivable that an intelligent robot could fill the void in a human's life? Can you have a relationship with such a robot? These are some of the questions that German director Maria Schrader addresses in her third feature film. She does so in a light and breezy way, resulting in a highly entertaining and entertaining comedy. Lead actress Maren Eggert won a Silver Bear for her role at the last Berlinale.
Scientist Alma (Eggert) works at the renowned Pergamon Museum in Berlin. In exchange for extra research budget, she agrees to take part in a remarkable experiment: she must live with a lifelike robot for three weeks. That robot is completely focused on her happiness, wishes and desires. And so one day Tom (Dan Stevens) shows up at her door, the mechanical equivalent of her perfect life partner. Soon Tom begins to get on Alma's nerves.
