Les intranquilles - Expat Cinema
What happens in a family when one of the family members suffers from mental problems? Belgian director Joachim Lafosse, who previously made such films as Nue propriété and Les chevaliers blancs, shows it in his new film. He based the biopolar main character on his father, who was also bipolar. The leads in this honest drama are played with verve by Damien Bonnard and Leïla Bekhti.
Painter Damien suffers from bipolar disorder, which makes his behaviour completely unpredictable. When he is in one of his restless 'moods', he becomes hyperactive, sometimes even aggressive towards himself. His wife Leïla loves him dearly and tries to support him wherever she can, but this becomes increasingly difficult. His mental breakdowns not only put a strain on her well-being, but also on that of their son. Slowly but surely, his condition brings the whole family to the brink of disaster.
