What Do We See When We Look at the Sky? - Expat Cinema
On the streets of the Georgian city of Koetaisi, medicine student Lisa and soccer player Georgi collide, her notebook falls to the ground, he picks it up for her - it's love at first sight. After a second chance encounter at a crossroads, they agree to meet at a café the next day, and they haven't even told each other their names yet. But at night something very strange happens, as the two wake up as very different people, with very different looks as well. What does this curse mean for their lives and more importantly, how are they supposed to find each other now?
This is as much a fairy tale about lovers plagued by the evil eye, as it is a relaxed, meandering evocation of life in the city of Koetaisi. Director Alexandre Koberidze combines romance with irony and a touch of magical realism in this film written by himself. Awarded the FIPRESCI prize at the 2021 Berlinale.
